PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cycle time of the operation of loading and unloading cassettes and maintain the degree of cleanliness in a stocker, in a stacker crane type automated storage and retrieval warehouse handling the cassettes for storing glass plates. SOLUTION: The loading and unloading positions A and B of the stocker 1 for the cassettes 3 are independent of each other and a cassette lifting device 4 is provided outside of the stocker 1. A cassette conveyor is provided for transferring the cassettes between the loading and unloading positions and the cassette lifting device, and the cassette lifting device 4, the cassette conveyor, and a glass plate conveyor are integral with one another and movable between positions corresponding to the loading and unloading positions. While the glass plate is being loaded into or unloaded from the cassette, the next cassette is held on standby in the unloading position, so that the cycle time can be reduced. Since the cassette lifting device is situated outside of the stocker, the degree of cleanliness inside the stocker can be maintained.
