The accelerator pedal assembly (10) has a foot-board (14) consisting of a horizontal rear portion (20) and a sloping front portion (22). The heel of the driver's right foot fits into the obtuse angle between the two portions and the ball of the foot engages a small T-shaped or round button-shaped pedal (12) near the front end of the foot-board. The pedal may be connected to an electronic control circuit. The foot-board is adjustable and an actuator (26) may move it rearward to help protect the driver (F) from injury during a crash.
