PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling TDC(Top Dead Center) of reciprocating compressor are provided to improve operating efficiency by varying operating frequency. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a phase difference detecting part(200) detecting phase difference of electric current of a motor and current stroke of a piston; an operating frequency determiner(500) determining operating frequency based on the phase difference; a TDC instruction value determiner(600) determining TDC instruction value based on the operating frequency; a control part(800) comparing the TDC instruction value and the current TDC of the piston to output TDC control signal accordingly; and an inverter(900) varying operating frequency by the TDC control signal so as to vary voltage impressed to the motor.
