PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper shredder being started automatically and having the perfect function of shredding paper. SOLUTION: This paper shredder is provided with a channel through which paper is made to pass, a paper shredding mechanism, a power source for outputting the power necessary to the paper shredding mechanism, a trigger which is arranged at the inlet end of the channel and moved by the pressure of the passing paper, a delay unit 43 driven by the power supplied from the power source for restoring the pressurizing force to be kept for a specified time and then interrupted, a lever 40 which is connected between the trigger and the unit 43 and moved by the pressure of the trigger or the unit 43, and a switch 42 which is connected to the power source electrically, contacted with a first portion of the lever 40, wherein a distance between the first portion and the trigger is smaller than that between the unit 43 and the trigger. The switch selects the energized or cut-off state according to the triggering of the external force, namely, selects the cut-off state and stops the power output of the power source when the trigger is not pressed by the paper and the unit 43 is in the pressurizing force-interrupted state.
