The compound PNS2O5Cl4 is formed by reacting polymeric phosphonitrilic chloride (PNCl2)n, where n may be 3-7, with at least one mole each of SO3 and HCl per mole of monomer, and preferably with stoichiometric <FORM:0979249/C1/1> The SO3 and HCl may be added separately or as chlorosulphonic acid ClSO3H. Polymeric (PNCl2)n exemplified are the trimer, tetramer, and a crude mixture of polymers. Temperatures from 15-100 DEG C., preferably 70-100 DEG C., and pressures at, above or below atmospheric are used. Sulphamic acid, NH2SO3H is removed by filtering; POCl3 and excess ClSO3H by vacuum distilling; and the product is then vacuum distilled (e.g. at 55-56 DEG C. at 0.02 mm.) leaving any (PNCl2)n as residue. |
