A gas container (13) holds residual gases e.g. arising from chemical processes, prior to their treatment and disposal. The gas container has side walls (12) and a base (11) made of stainless steel whose inner face is coated with pure nickel to a thickness of pref. 30-50 m. The nickel coating is applied in a galvanic process.
