The system has a central unit (14) connected to at least one loudspeaker (12) and microphone unit (13) worn by a person and via which the person can communicate and that has at least two selectable channels (1-4) with which communications signals can be received and/or transmitted from/to different signal sources (16,18,20,21,22,24). Received signals are fed to the loudspeaker unit and transmitted signals are acquired from the microphone unit.
