<p>A method for identifying a compound which modulates the function of the gene product of an essential gene, which method comprises providing viable cells wherein the gene is expressed under the control of a heterogenous, regulatable promoter, switching off gene expression via the promoter, contacting the cells with a test compound and determining any modulatory effect of the compound on the function of the gene product.</p> |
