PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can print by switching between a direct transferring method and an indirect transferring method and shorten a printing time. SOLUTION: This printer 1 has an image forming portion 9 on a first card conveying passage P1 for forming an image on a card C or a middle transfer sheet F, a transferring portion 10 on a second conveying passage P2 for transferring the image formed on the middle transfer sheet F, and a transferring portion 6 for rotating or reversing the card C. Transferring to the card C at the transferring portion 10 is carried out by a conveying action of a card C same as or different from the card C at the image forming portion 9 or of a thermal- transfer sheet R in forming the image on the middle transfer sheet F.
