A television camera comprises a pick-up tube 1 and a preamplifier (the constructional details of which are not illustrated) to which picture signals developed by the pick-up tube are applied, the preamplifier being carried by a mounting member 4 concentrically surrounding the neck of the pick-up tube and carrying at its centre a socket adapted to engage the base of the pick-up tube, the socket being arranged for axial movement but prevented from rotation (by means not illustrated) with respect to the mounting member. The socket is situated within a concentric shell guide 5 and is limited in one direction of axial movement by an annular stop 13 and in the other direction of movement by a circular clip 14 which is fitted to guide 5 after the insertion of socket 6. The pick-up tube is surrounded by a coil assembly 2 to which member 4 is attached by pillars. The front of the coil assembly is closed by a removable plate (not illustrated) having an opening to admit light to the photo-cathode of the pick-up tube and against which the pick-up tube must be held in order to ensure that the photo-cathode is placed in the prescribed position in relation to the optical system of the camera. For this purpose the base of the pick-up tube is engaged by a ring 9 which urges the tube towards the front of the coil assembly under the influence of tension spring 10 secured to the rear of the coil assembly. The axial freedom of socket 6 in guide 5 allows the necessary movement. Ring 9 carries a cylindrical member 10 which is guided for movement by cylindrical member 16 attached to the coil assembly 2. The construction according to the invention, which is said to be particularly applicable to imageorthicon cameras, provides a compact and unitary tube and preamplifier assembly in which the lead from the tube to amplifier may be made short and of low capacitance since the amplifier accompanies the tube during axial movement for focus adjustment. |
