PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection system of an object on a road, that relieves labor of a road observer by automatically detecting parking vehicles and falling objects on the road and is adaptable to road monitoring at urban areas with heavy traffic as well. SOLUTION: A control part 12 of an object detector 30 performs an edge extraction processing to the latest image photographed by a monitoring camera 14. Furthermore, existence of an object is confirmed by detecting edge components of the object after masking an image outside an interest area of the edge extracted image and deciding its intensity. When the existence of the object is recognized, the control part 12 automatically detects the existence of the object on the road by discriminating whether or not the object the existence of which is recognized remains stationary for over certain prescribed time. When the existence of the object on the road is detected, the control part 12 outputs an object detection signal to the outside. |
