PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a panel type fluorescent display which is made to be a thinned type as much as possible and can sharply display fluorescent patterns down to minuteness and detail. SOLUTION: This display uses as a light source a cold cathode discharge tube emitting near ultraviolet rays and has a display panel having translucency at the front of the display and a reflector plate reflecting the near ultraviolet rays toward the side of the display panel at the back of the display and, moreover, in the display panel, desired patterns are engraved on a face thereof facing the cold cathode discharge tube and fluorescent films having one or a plurality of colors are deposited on the engraved recessed parts. Furthermore, in the display panel, reflecting films reflecting the near ultraviolet rays is deposited on the face opposite to the tube except the engraved recessed parts.
