PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that can correct an output fault due to dirt on a reference white board and dirt on the face of contact glass resulting in white and black stripes. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with a frame memory that temporarily stores data of one frame from read image data, a data changeover means 102 that discriminates whether the image data being a correction object are defective data depending on a kind of the stored data and selects a processing step, a defect pixel detection means 103 that detects a defective pixel, a defective pixel storage means 104 that stores defective pixel data, a data verification means 105 that compares the image data from a data changeover means with the defective pixel data stored in the defective pixel storage medium 104 and discriminates whether or not the image data are data to be corrected, and a correction means 106 that uses peripheral pixels to apply matrix processing to the image information detected by the defective pixel detection means so as to correct the defective pixel and the image processing unit applies a series of processing for R, G, B respectively.
