PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that no sufficient reproduced output is obtained from the conventional laminated magnetoresistive effect film composed of metallic magnetic films. SOLUTION: A magnetoresistive effect element having a high magnetoresistive effect is obtained by forming a high-polarizability layer having a thickness of <=10 nm in contact with the interface between a nonmagnetic layer and an intermediate layer as an Fe-rich Fe-O layer and heat-treating the Fe-O layer into a ferromagnetic Fe-O layer.
