PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize split type exposure image pickup compatible with interlace scanning without causing a problem of a timing difference by fields. SOLUTION: A system controller 112 is provided with a split exposure control section 112b that controls split exposure image pickup. The split exposure image pickup is compatible with the interlace scanning. In the image pickup sequence of the split exposure image pickup the exposure is split in different timings by each odd/even field for all exposure periods from discharge of electric charges by a full electric charge drain pulse CDP until shading by a mechanical shutter 104, and a signal processing section 108a applies summing processing to each obtained partial image pickup output individually by each odd/even field to generate one frame image corresponding to all the exposure periods.
