PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smoothing method and a smoothing circuit that can extract a feature of a contour with high accuracy by using a few number of collation patterns so as to obtain a great image quality enhancing effect in a comparatively simple and inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: The smoothing circuit of this invention is configured to comprise a window pattern conversion circuit that receives an extracted window pattern obtained by extracting an area of a prescribed size by using each pixel of input image data for a target pixel and selectively outputs the extracted window pattern or an inverted window pattern resulting from inverting the polarity of each pixel of the extracted window pattern, a template collation circuit that collates the window pattern outputted from the window pattern conversion circuit with a plurality of collation templates and outputs correction dot data corresponding to the collation template coincident with the window pattern, and a dot data conversion circuit that selectively outputs the correction dot data outputted from the template collation circuit or inverted correction data resulting from inverting the polarity of each dot of the correction dot data. |
