ELECTRONIC ELIMINATION OF STRIATION IN LINEAR LAMP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate visual striations in a lamp 32. SOLUTION: A lighting system comprises a ballast 26 operation-connected to a system power source 22. The ballast 26 is designed to generate a lamp input signal, A lamp input line 30 is operation-connected to receive the lamp input signal. The gas discharge lamp 32 is operation-connected to the lamp input line 30 constituted to receive the lamp input signal. An amplitude modulating circuit 36 is arranged to be operation-connected to the lamp input line 30. The amplitude modulating circuit 36 is constituted to periodically modulate the amplitude of the lamp input signal prior to the lamp input signal received by the gas discharge lamp 32. The amplitude of the lamp input signal is periodically modulated by the operation of the amplitude modulating circuit 36 to eliminate the visual striations which would be generated in the lamp 32 without the amplitude modulating circuit.
