<p>A portable telephone or a small PDA apparatus held by one hand and operated by fingers of the same hand is provided with four or more keys on the left side face generally perpendicular to the display surface, three or more keys and a four-way joystick on the right side face, and an on-hook/off- hook key on the rear surface in order to input characters. When all the five fingers of one hand are used and if the keys are arranged according to the invention, characters can be inputted very quickly as compared with the input operation using only the thumb and training time required for blind touch is shortened significantly as compared with the input operation using only the thumb. The character inputting rate is increased furthermore when blind touch is mastered. Since the character inputting rate of a portable telephone or a small PDA apparatus held by one hand and operated by fingers of the same hand is increased significantly as compared with a conventional way, the convenience of the user can be enhanced significantly.</p> |
