The expansion chuck, for fitting to the tool shaft of a machine tool, has a base body (2) and an expansion bush (5) which is inserted into the base body (2) to form an enclosed ring zone (7), or it surrounds the base body. It is soldered into place at least at the axial end zones. The ring zone (7) is filled with a hydraulic medium through the elastic distortion of the expansion bush (5) to give a clamping action. The expansion bush (5) and the base body (2) form a positive radial fit with each other at a bonding zone away from the working spindle, or close to the spindle, by a projection (10) and groove (9) lock.
