An antimalarial agent which is effective against malaria plasmodium having resistance to various antimalarial agents and is reduced in side effects. The antimalarial agent contains as the active ingredient a rhodacyanine dye compound represented by the general formula (I) (wherein R1 and R2 each independently represents hydrogen, (un)substituted C1−8 alkyl, or C6−8 aryl or R1 and R2 are bonded to each other to form an (un)substituted six−membered ring; B represents a conjugated system; n is 0, 1, or 2; A represents a group of atoms necessary for forming a five− or six−membered heterocycle, which may be unsubstituted or have two or more substituents, which may be bonded to each other; and Q represents a pharmaceutically acceptable anion).
