PURPOSE: A device for driving a flat field emission display and a method for the same are provided to prevent the distortion of wave by applying an arbitrary shadow pulse to the output waveform of the scan pulse supplying block before the scan pulse is supplied although the scan driver is turned on. CONSTITUTION: A device for driving a flat field emission display includes a data driving block(41) for supplying data to a plurality of data lines(D1-Dn), a scan line selection block(40) for selecting a scan line(S1-Sm) to supply a scan pulse and a scan pulse supplying block(42) for supplying the scan pulse to the scan line selected by the scan line selection block(40), wherein the data driving block(41) the data pulses to the plurality of data lines(D1-Dn) in response to the existence/non-existence of the data supply. The scan line selection block(40) includes a timing control block(62) for supplying the scan data in response to the supply timing of the scan pulse, a first buffer(64) for temporally storing the scan data, a photo coupler(66) for electrically isolating the first buffer(64) and the second buffer(68), the second buffer(68) for temporally storing the data supplied from the photo coupler(66) and a scan drive integrated circuit(IC)(70) for sequentially supplying the scan pulses to the plurality of scan electrodes(S1-Sm) by receiving the scan data from the second buffer(68).
