PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for an aluminum material by which rolling impressions, extrusion impressions, or the like, on formation of a stock are eliminated, and further, surface luster and color tones which are enough in uniformity and reproducibility, and controlled over wide ranges can be imparted thereto. SOLUTION: The surface treatment method for the aluminum material consisting of aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes a first stage where heat treatment is performed in an oxygen atmosphere, and a thermal oxide film is formed on the surface of the aluminum material, and a second stage where anode electrolysis is performed in an aqueous solution containing a monobacic acid and/or a salt thereof.
