BALANCE PISTON FOR CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balance piston for a centrifugal compressor capable of controllably damping subharmonic vibration. SOLUTION: This balance piston comprises a tubular body 21 keyed to a rotor 3 and a stator side tubular structural body 15 having a body installed on a stator 2 through a seal 16 with a small cell. A play increased from a smaller value to a larger one is provided between the outside conical surfaces 22 and 32 of the tubular bodies 21 and 31 and the surface of the seal 16 installed on the stator part facing the conical surfaces. The ratio of the larger value to the smaller value is between 1.15 and 1.8. The play between the rotor 3 and the stator 2 is increased toward the flow of gas passing through the play.
