When the abnormality is detected, a maximum value of a discharge section signal IGw of the ECU 11 is changed over from 5 V to 12 V, and a mode is changed over from a normal mode to a failure mode. In the case that the current i1 detected by the monitor means 16 does not reach a third current value when a current is carried through a primary coil 3a by the operation of an auxiliary circuit 13, the ECU 11 detects the generation of failure in an ignition coil 3 or an ignition circuit 4 to warn an occupant.
