PURPOSE: A device and method for preventing wear of gas sensors is provided to improve reliability of product by preventing the gas sensor from being worn out by the high density of the gas. CONSTITUTION: A device for preventing wear of gas sensors, comprises a plurality of gas sensors(S1 to Sn) for detecting hazardous gas in an electrical signal; an amplifier(1) for amplifying the signal output from the gas sensors into a predetermined level; a control unit(2) for calculating density of the gas according to a predetermined program, displaying the calculated density on a display(3), comparing the calculated density with a preset reference value, and operating a buzzer(4) and a lamp(5) if necessary; the display for displaying density of gas in accordance with the signal output from the control unit; the buzzer for generating alarm sounds in accordance with the signal output from the control unit and density of gas; the lamp which flickers in accordance with the signal output from the control unit and density of gas; an RS232C interface(6) for transmitting signal output from the control unit to a personal computer; a power supply(7) for supplying power to each unit when the power switch is turned on; and a power supply control unit(8) interposed between the power supply and the catalyst combustion type gas sensor from among gas sensors, and which cuts off the power voltage being applied to the catalyst combustion type gas sensor when the density of the gas is higher than a predetermined level.
