摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight structure of a liquid crystal cell wherein luminance is enhanced while the number of light condensing sheets is being reduced. SOLUTION: The light condensing sheet 28 has a plurality of nearly V-shaped grooves 28a formed in the direction coinciding with the transmission axis of a lower polarizing plate 10. The light transmitted through the light condensing sheet 28 has a nearly perpendicular light component in the direction perpendicular to the groove and a light flux component having inclination in the groove direction. Not only the light in the nearly perpendicular direction, but also the light having inclination in the groove direction corresponds to the inclination of the transmission axis of the lower polarizing plate 10 to be transmitted through the lower polarizing plate 10. Thereby, the light from the light condensing sheet 28 is transmitted through the lower polarizing plate 10 to enhance the luminance.
