1330171 Crimping yarns JOHN HEATHCOAT & GO Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970 3 April 1970] 15568/70 and 15822/70 Heading D1F In a method of crimping yarns, turns of yarn are wrapped round the wider end of a rrusito-conical forming surface defined by the edges of a plurality of spaced blades and are advanced towards the smaller end of the forming surface, the turns of yarn being caused by elements meshing in the spaces between the blades to assume an undulating path while advancing towards the smaller end of the forming surface, whereby the yarn is crimped. The method may be carried out in apparatus of the type shown in Fig. 1 wherein there is provided a cone member 2 having on its external surface a plurality of spaced blades 2c (Fig. 2, not shown). A pusher member 4 actuated by a reciprocating arm moves the cone member 2 along the shaft 1 so that blades 2c mesh with vanes 10 of the rotatable mounted skirt 9. Yarn Y is fed through the flyer, wrapped round cone member 2 and is pushed between the vanes 10 and blades 2c. Crimped yarn is removed through the shaft 1. A heater may be embedded in the cone member 2 (Fig. 2, not shown). An alternative apparatus for carrying out the method, is shown in Fig. 4 wherein yarn is wrapped around the rotatable conical formation of blades 29 which mesh with the rotatable group of blades 39. Hot air may be supplied via duct 47 to the crimping area. Crimped yarn is removed via the ring 50. |
