PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an excellent fusion splicing with a low joining loss when one of two optical fibers to be spliced is easily affected by heat. SOLUTION: In a case where one optical fiber 10 of the optical fibers 10 and 20 to be spliced is easily affected by heat, a heating and fusing process in which respective end faces are butted and heated with a discharge beam 43 is performed in a way that the butted position B is shifted from the center position A of the discharge beam 43 to the side of the optical fiber 10 and the end of the optical fiber 20 is inserted into the discharge beam 43 deeper than the center A of the discharge beam 43, and the end of the optical fiber 10 is more shallowly inserted into the end of the discharge beam 43, and then a heating and penetrating process is performed by moving only the optical fiber 20 to the side of the optical fiber 10 while the optical fiber 10 is fixed. |
