<p>A writing instrument (20) includes a barrel (30) defining a channel (34), an arcuate cam member (60) coupled to the barrel (30) and a writing element (40) in communication with the cam member (60). The cam member (60) is rotatable between a first position in which a writing end (42) of the writing element (40) is retracted within the channel (34) and a second position in which the writing end (42) of the writing element (40) is extended out of the channel (34). The cam member (60) rotates about an axis of rotation (37) that is transverse to the longitudinal axis (26) of the writing instrument (20). Various features which improve the functioning of the writing instrument (20) or cam member (60) may be provided separately or in combination.</p> |
