PURPOSE: An operation detector and method of a fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system is provided to reduce fuel consumption and pollutants. CONSTITUTION: In an operation detector and method of a fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system, a general scan tool transmits control data and control programs to an engine control unit, by first communication protocol, through a communication line(S21). The engine control unit controls the working state of a fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system and transmits the result data, with using data transmitted from the general scan tool and a control program(S27). The general scan tool reads the data transmitted from the engine control unit, decides the operation of the fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system, transmits the control data and the control program to the engine control unit, and re-examine the fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system, through second communication protocol if the operation of the fuel evaporation gas exhaust suppression system is abnormal(S200).
