PURPOSE: A device for controlling spindle motor velocity of an optical disk player is provided to control to speed up data read velocity by detecting lead/lag and a difference in positions of an EFM pointer and a transfer pointer. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling spindle motor velocity of an optical disk player includes an EFM(Eight to Fourteen Modulation) demodulator(204) EFM-demodulating data read from a disk(202) for outputting EFM data and frame sync; a frequency measuring part(206) comparing periods of the extracted frame sync and a theoretical sync for outputting the difference as an error value; a buffer(208) storing the EFM data, correcting errors of the stored EFM data, storing transfer data to be transferred to the outside for generating audio signals; a lead/lag detecting part(210) comparing the record position of the EFM data with the read position of the transfer data for detecting lead/lag; and a motor control signal generating part(212) controlling the rotative velocity of the disk corresponding to the error value and the lead/lag.
