METHOD FOR CERTIFYING LOCATION STAMPING FOR WIRELESS TRANSACTIONS

A system for establishing the credibility of geographic location information associated with information transmitted from a wireless device (10) of non-repudiation purposes is disclosed. The present invention relates to the stamping of a transaction conducted over a wireless medium (14) with geographic position information specific to the wireless device (10) engaged in the transaction. The system described has the capability to cater both self-locating (12) and non-self-locating devices, in which case the location is computed by a third-party (16). For the purpose of authentication the system can use either public-key solution or secure session. Digital signatures are useful for the purpose of establishing credibility.
