Apparatus for testing tokens 10 of varied sizes comprises opposite walls in part defining a chute through which a token 10 is adapted to pass, a pair of spaced tokens edge guides 131 between said opposite walls and further defining therewith said chute. The edge guides 131 are spaced a substantially predetermined distance from each other corresponding substantially to the diameter of a token 10 passing through said chute whereby each token axis moves along a centre line (P) of a centred token path of travel corresponding to substantially one-half said substantially predetermined distance. The apparatus has a first token characteristic sensing means 191 for sensing a first token characteristic during token movement along said token path, said token path characteristic sensing means being constructed and arranged for sensing each token substantially along said token path centre line (P) whereby on-axis token sensing is effected. The apparatus has means for selectively changing the spacing between said opposite walls. The apparatus may have means for pivoting said opposite walls relative to each other. This also enables the walls to be forced apart by a camming action in the event of a token jamming. The space changing means may be a spacer between said opposite spaced walls. |
