Formaldehyde-free additive for textile treatment compositions, especially for improving crease resistance, comprises a cationic polymer based on cationic monomers such as quaternised dialkylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate plus alkyl (meth)acrylate comonomer(s) and optionally other olefinically unsaturated monomers, all being radically polymerisable. A formaldehyde-free additive (I) for textile treatment compositions, especially for improving crease-resistance and/or dimensional stability, comprising (per 100 g solid content): (a) 0.5-20 g cationic monomer(s) selected from dimethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate quaternised with methyl chloride, epichlohydrin or dimethyl sulfate, similarly quaternised diethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate and diallyl-dimethyl-ammonium chloride; (b) 80-99.5 g (meth)acrylate monomer of formula CH2=CR'-COOR; and (c) 0-10 g mono- or poly-unsaturated comonomer(s),the monomers (a, b, c) being at least in part radically (co)polymerisable. R' = H or methyl; R = 1-8C alkyl (linear or branched, prim., sec. or tert.) and (c) Independent claims are also included for (1) textile treatment compositions containing (I); and (2) treated textiles consisting of fibres coated with a composition as in (1), especially textiles treated to increase their crease-resistance.
