PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a TFF liquid crystal display device or a portable terminal unit using the same. SOLUTION: The TFT liquid crystal display device or the portable terminal unit comprises a liquid crystal display part 101, a source driver 102 and a gate driver 103, a picture signal generation part 109 to be connected with the source driver, a power source 104 for driving the source driver and the gate driver, a source power source switch 105 and a gate power source switch 106 to be connected between the power source and the source driver and gate driver, respectively, and a control part 107 for controlling the source driver and gate driver, the source power source switch, and the gate power source switch, and the control part controls to switch on-off the source power source switch and the gate power source switch at regular intervals for intermittent display on the liquid crystal display part, and inverts the polarity of the picture signal at the time of switching off the source power source switch and the gate power source switch.
