PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device that prevents reflection of the outside light in the picture elements and has good contrast. SOLUTION: The display device comprises a first electrode 7 that is formed in pattern on the substrate 1, an insulating membrane 8 that is provided on the substrate 1 having an opening 8a that exposes the first electrode 7 for each picture element, an organic EL layer 11 provided on the first electrode 7 exposed from the opening 8a of the insulating member 8, and a second electrode 12 made of a light-transmission material provided over the organic EL layer 11. A light absorption layer 10 is provided on the insulating membrane 8. By this light absorption layer 10, the insulating membrane 8 between the openings 8a which becomes the light-emitting section is covered, and thereby, the lowering of contrast by reflection of the outside light at the light-emitting section is prevented.
