PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify the specification of a drive when drives having different specifications for driving recording media are mixed and housed in a device. SOLUTION: A library device for recording media is provided with a plurality of drive mounts 7a and 7b which house arbitrary drives of a plurality of kinds of drives to carry out write and/or read of the recording media in a different specification, respectively in a detachable manner, a detecting means 9 to detect the specification of the drive housed in each above mount, and a setting means 3 to set the specification of the drive to be housed in each mount. The control means 2 identifies whether or not the specification of the drive on each mount detected by the detecting means is adapted to the specification set by the setting means.
