METHOD OF MANUFACTURING CATHODE-RAY TUBE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a cathode-ray tube that can suppress the formation of wrinkles near the long side end of a color discriminating electrode even in the cathode-ray tube which needs tension distribution in which the tension in the center part is higher than that at the end in the long side direction of a frame while applying desired tension to the color discriminating electrode. SOLUTION: A mask plate 8 is provided with rectangular mask holes 9. The mask plate 8 is welded to the frame in the positions of weld lines 10. An approximately rectangular mask hole region 11 inside the upper and lower weld lines 10 becomes a shadow mask, and peripheral regions 12 outside the mask hole region 11 are cut off after welding. Circular hole parts 13 are provided in the peripheral regions 12, near the corner parts of the mask hole region 11. The mask plate 8 is welded to the frame in a state where the stretched tensile strength is applied in the direction parallel with short sides, to the mask plate 8.
