PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate valve that is capable of improving cooling effect of a metallic membrane. SOLUTION: The gate valve comprises a valve seat 5 that is provided in the internal passage 3 of the gate valve body 2 and a valve element 6 that is capable of movement in the direction of contacting and separating from this valve seat 5 and is capable of shutting off the upstream side and the downstream side of the internal passage 3 by sealing at contacting. A communicating hole 7 that communicates the front and the rear of the valve seat 5 is formed in the valve element 6, and a metallic film 8 that can transmit radiated lights having high heat load is arranged in this communicating hole 7. And a cooling water receiving part 14 of a cavity shape is formed in the valve element 6 at a position capable of heat conduction with the metallic film 8, and the metallic film 8 is cooled by supplying cooling water to the cooling water receiving part 14.
