PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which detects not only surface temperatures in a plurality of positions of a preheating part at a low cost but also residual like a recording material remaining on the preheating part. SOLUTION: The image forming device is provided with a fixing device which has a fixing roll having a heating means and a freely turnably pressed pressure roll and thermally fuses and fixes an unfixed toner formed on the recording material in a nip part formed by press-contact between the fixing roll and the pressure roll. The image forming device is further provided with a non-contact temperature detection means which faces the preheating part for giving the heat from the heating means to the recording material and detects the surface temperature of the preheating part without contacting and a surface temperature detection direction change means which is provided for the surface of the preheating part so that temperatures in a plurality of positions of the preheating part can be detected, and the non-contact temperature detection means can detect not only the surface temperature of the preheating part but also foreign matters remaining on the surface of the preheating part.
