PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert the format of image data inputted to a primary storage section into another format and to efficiently transfer the image data with the converted image format to a secondary storage section independently of the data conversion format. SOLUTION: A memory control section 43 transfers the image data of an original to an ordinary image storage area of an image memory 42 by means of an image input/output DMAC(Direct Memory Access Controller) 41 and writes the image data to the storage area. The memory control section 43 then reserves only a capacity of a converted image storage area of the image memory 42 required for storing all of the image data whose data format is converted by an image converter 49, the image input/output DMAC 41 transfers the image data written in the image memory 42 to the image converter 49, further transfers the image data whose data format is converted by the image converter 49 to the converted image storage area reserved in the image memory 42, and writes all the data to the area, and an HDD controller 47 transfers the image data in the converted image storage area to an HDD 48.
