PURPOSE: An apparatus for managing a fault in a wideband line distribution system and a method therefor are provided to considerably reduce a load for managing and processing the fault of a unit by accessing a status register of an MFU(Main Function Unit) in case that an ISR(Interrupt Service Routine) module sets a specific flag, checking whether the fault is generated, and managing the fault successively generated in the same unit through a trigger interrupt service routine module. CONSTITUTION: A flag register(4) sets a signal according to the interrupt generation of a unit by an interrupt generation flag signal outputted from an ISR module(3). An inthandler module(7) checks whether an interrupt is generated through the flag register(4), checks a status register when the interrupt is generated, judges whether the status register is an excessive interrupt generation unit, and records the corresponding unit in a list. A trigger ISR module(9) accesses the list written by the inthandler module(7), inserts the excessive interrupt generation unit and normal units into an intqueue(8), and monitors a long polling period.
