A method and system (100) for analyzing the transfer of motion to a subject (140) on a sleeping surface (110). A mattress (110) is positioned on a frame (120), and a subject (140) is positioned o the mattress (110). A target (220) is placed in communication with the subject (140). The surface adjacent the subject (140) is moved by means of a moving mass (200), and the target (220) detects the motion of the subject (140). Motion transferred to the subject as a result of the mattress (110) moving is measured and recorded.
