The invention concerns a device (1) for absorbing tension in the chain of a mooring gear conventionally consisting of an anchor and a chain moored to the windlass or the bow of a boat when the latter is anchored. The invention is characterised in that it consists of at least a strand (2) of rubber bands sheathed in an extensible sleeve and forming at least two loops (3a, 3b) respectively provided with a fixing means (9) for fixing said loops (3a, 3b) respectively to a chain link of the mooring gear and to a fixing point of the boat's bow such that, when the boat is stationary, that is when it is not moved vertically by a wave, the chain slackens, that is it is not subjected to any tension between the two fixing points of the device (1).
