PURPOSE: A method of separation of an active component of Alpiniae officinarum Rhizoma by soaking in a solvent for 1 to 15 days is provided. Therefore, the composition containing the extract including galangin or the like exhibits pharmaceutically stable free radical scavenging action, antioxidative action and oxidative DNA damage inhibiting action and can be used as an anti-aging agent. CONSTITUTION: Alpiniae officinarum Rhizoma is dried, ground, added with a solvent and then soaked for 1 to 15 days, the solvent is one or more selected from the group consisting of ethanol, a mixture of ethanol and water, methanol, a mixture of methanol and water, acetone, diethyl ether, hexane, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol or ethyl acetate. Then the extract is concentrated under reduced pressure. The anti-aging agent contains 0.001 to 10% by weight of the extract as a main component.
