PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet unit in which malfunction of an ink cartridge holding member due to collision of the cover part of the ink cartridge holding member against a front cover can be prevented. SOLUTION: An ink jet unit comprising an ink carrier 3, a cover 8 and a cover sensor 10 is further provided with a section 11 for detecting an ink cartridge 4 fixed to the ink carrier 3 under a state where the cover part 5 of the ink carrier 3 is closed. When the cover sensor 10 detects closure of the cover 8 and the ink cartridge detecting section 11 detects the ink cartridge 4 fixed to the ink carrier 3 under a state where the cover part 5 is closed, the ink carrier 3 moves from the replacing position to the waiting position of the ink cartridge 4. |
