PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wear measuring method and a device thereof capable of automatically and efficiently measuring an amount of wear of a wear resistant material without impairing the reliability over the whole electric traction. SOLUTION: This method for measuring an amount of wear of a contact face for supplying electric power in a contact manner for a running rolling stock in the electric traction provided on at least one side of the rolling stock along a track on which the electrically driven rolling stock runs comprises a step for providing a reference face facing the same side as the contact face in a non-wear region of the electric traction, a step for irradiating laser obliquely from a side of the rolling stock and at least toward the contact face and the reference face for the contact face, a step for photographing an image of a cross section crossing the direction of extension of the electric traction with respect to the contact face and the reference face using reflected laser, and a step for calculating a first length from the reference face to a predetermined non-wear face included in the non-wear region and a second length from the reference face to the contact face based on data of photographed image.
