PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monomer for an optical part having high transparency, mechanical properties, heat-resistance, or the like low chromatic aberration (high Abbe number) and birefringence and good melt flowability and formability, and a polymerizable composition. SOLUTION: This invention provides a new diacetate compound having sulfur atom in a ring, a method for producing a dihydroxy compound by hydrolyzing the diacetate compound, a polymer having a specific recurring unit containing the compound, a molding material for optical part composed of the polymer and an optical part produced by molding the material.
