The heating system has a pipe (1) communicating with a burner chamber (2) and connected to a fuel supply (9). A glow filament (4) fixed in the pipe serves during the start up phase of the heater to vaporise and ignite the fuel. A screen element (6) in the pipe encloses the filament and forwards the fuel in the pipe to the burner chamber. The screen element inside the pipe is spaced in some areas from an inner wall (7) of the pipe facing the screen element.
