PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for connecting an extension using a voice recognition in a PBX(Private Branch eXchange) are provided to receive only a name voice of an extension subscriber from an external subscriber and automatically connect to the corresponding extension subscriber through the voice recognition by registering an extension number corresponding to the name voice of the extension subscriber. CONSTITUTION: A voice recognition unit(34) performs a recognition function about a voice signal, extracts a name voice of a termination object who an external subscriber wants to call, and transmits the extracted name voice. A voice mail box(35) stores a name voice of an extension subscriber and an extension number corresponding to the name voice of the extension subscriber, and outputs a voice input request of a name of the termination object or an absent state guiding voice to the external subscriber through an office line. If the termination of call is requested using an office line number, a central control unit(36) controls the voice mail box(35), and requests the voice input of the name of the termination object to the external subscriber who requests the termination of call. The central control unit(36) retrieves the voice mail box(35) using the name voice of the termination object transmitted from the voice recognition unit(34), reads an extension number of an extension subscriber, and transmits a ring signal to only a corresponding extension terminal.
